Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association/AZ Supports
Mental Training in Youth Baseball ClinicsPHOENIX, AZ –The
Arizona Chapter of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni
Association(MLBPAA/AZ) educates youth through positive
sports images and by promoting baseball. Former Major
League Players instruct youths in clinics organized through
the Arizona Youth Baseball Program. Recently the MLBPA/AZ
has teamed up with Performance Media to provide information
on mental training to the youth players.
Beginning in October, instructors for the AZ Youth Baseball
Clinics have been given tip sheets to distribute to the
youth players in the clinics. Learning about visualization
practices, relaxation methods and controlling self-talk
are all part of the mental side of the game. The visualization
exercises include mental rehearsal and confidence training.
“Visualization is a natural part of the
instruction in baseball. Coaches tell their players to
visualize with hitting, fielding, and pitching. This way
we have specific steps and exercises to support the coaching,”
says Lou Klimchock, President of the AZ Chapter of MLBPAA.
Performance Media is a Phoenix company that specializes
in developing products on Peak Performance. The products
include training manuals, CDs, videos, and online programs
on topics related to Peak Performance information and
training, such as goal setting, visualization, and stress
control.
The AZ Chapter of MLBPAA has over 360 members who were
National League Players or American League Players. AZ
Youth Baseball is the designated charity of MLBPAA/AZ.
About fifteen Arizona Youth Baseball Clinics are held
throughout the year on fields in different cities in Arizona,
including Show Low, Scottsdale, Glendale, Ahwatukee, and
Tempe.
Seventy-five to one hundred youths participate in each
clinic.
